REMEDIATION:
CON-FORM is a specialist in the sphere of brownfield site remediation. From concept to construction our approach is focused and professional with the solution tailored to address both the contaminants encountered and the planned end usage of the site.
With ever changing legislation and escalating costs for landfill, the need for on site remediation is becoming increasingly necessary and cost effective.
Type of works carried out by CON-FORM are the identification and immobilisation of the contaminants, pH balancing of acidic soils, aeration of contaminated soils to reduce the contaminants below the trigger levels, the development of bentonite enriched soils for capping waste, the processing of demolition arisings and the installation of contaminant migration barrier walls.
CON-FORM also has the capability to modify former landfill sites to make them fit for development. The waste materials are profiled and encapsulated in to areas under the building footprints away from possible human contact. Gas venting systems are then installed to eliminate the potential build up of any harmful gases. Another key aspect that has to be taken into consideration is the addressing of future potential differential settlement which can often be experienced at these type of works. CON-FORM has in-house a fleet of rolling dynamic compaction equipment which enables it to consolidate/compact the ground at depth.
CON-FORM has also utilised its in-house developed E-FoundŽ alternative foundation system to modify contaminated, geotechnically challenged soils to eliminate the need for piling, thereby removing the pathway from the hazardous material to the receptor.
The work is carried out, space and environmental factors permitting, on site to minimise traffic movements through in-situ processing of the materials.
Contaminant immobilisation is the physical process involving the introduction of reactive inorganic binders to potentially hazardous contaminated soils. The process involves the modification of the soil through the addition of a bespoke binder designed to meet the site-specific conditions and remediation objectives. We have also recently been granted a Waste Management Licence by the Environment Agency, enabling us to modify waste soils both in-situ and ex-situ. Ex-situ works would be processed in house using our unique, custom designed, mobile batching plant. This has enabled us to increase our capability to treat contaminated soils by 1 million tonnes per year.
Benefits of remediation are numerous including significant cost savings, good environmental practice, reduction in vehicle movements and the production of geotechnically sound material.
